Interesting, based on wrought iron trims, mostly on verandas. Sadly, new buildings, houses, commercial or public, don’t have such an interesting trim, and in fact even verandas are rare. Was also used for fences and around balconies.
I love the second design … it would be lovely on a bed, but I would also like it as a mat, though would like it to be extended a bit in length to fit in a lounge room.
By the way, the Q ‘n’ A in the title is Quilting and Applique in shorthand!

I love old buildings with wrought iron lace around the roof line and the veranda. Bendigo is one place to see a great collection. The colours I have used in this series represent the fertile soil around Bendigo, and other areas where mining was important in the early settlement period, and the farming communities which replaced the miners.
My favourite today is the second design.

Love the second design too, but in a real quilt some of the quilting motifs would be changed to filler designs … straight lines, cross hatch or stippling, and use thread matching the background for those areas, contrast thread for the remaining motifs.
